ForeChat

ForeChat was developed as a passion project. Being an avid golfer, the challenge of connecting with players of similar skill levels is difficult. ForeChat serves as a specialized app for golfers, facilitating connections with others nearby who share the same skill level. Users can learn more about potential matches by looking at their profiles. Once a mutual interest is share, ForeChat sends a notification, signaling a successful match.

Challenges

Designing a product that didn't exist was a difficult challenge mainly because I had nothing to do UX Research on and read reviews on other similar apps.

Solutions

Finding similar apps based off the same concept was where I found success. ForeChat is based off the model from Tinder, 18Birdies, and MyFitnessPal.

Design Components

The design process was brought into Figma so I could apply any changes that needed to be made quickly. This helped keep any changes consistent.

Added Features

I aimed to enhance the app's appeal by incorportating standout features that simplify user interaction and eliminate the need for exchanging personal contact details like phone numbers or email addresses.

Users can now seamlessly filter their search by gender and club affiliation facilitating connects within their local golfing community through group chats.

Moreover, inspired by social media platforms like Facebook, I introduced a feature allowing users to share updates, photos, and information about upcoming golf tournaments directly within ForeChat, fostering deeper engagement and connection among users.

Beta Testing

Initially, I conducted thorough research to find the demographic of potential users. This involved searching the USGA GHIN's demographic of users registered based on gender distribution among app users. Next, I filtered my search based on handicap index and age range. Finally, I reached out to the desired demographic via LinkedIn, inviting golfers to participate as beta testers for my app.

Final Results

With 23 beta testers on board, I conducted thorough testing to gather valuable feedback to help enhance the app. Based on this feedback, I found areas for improvement. Considering the persistent challenges faced by golfers, I hope I can develop the app one day and launch it inside the App Store and Google Play Store. This would provide a solution to the pain points found within the golfing community.
